2010 CONTEMPORARY DANCE FESTIVAL

This year, Thang Dao Dance Company (TDDC) will once again host the Contemporary Dance Festival, which played to sell-out audiences in 2009. We invite you to apply to this year's festival, which we expect to draw an even larger audience.

TDDC established the Contemporary Dance Festival (CDF) in 2007 to showcase the talent of emerging choreographers and companies in the contemporary ballet and modern dance realms. The program will be a mixed bill shared by TDDC and selected applicants chosen by a panel of established artists in the dance community. The festival seeks to bring innovative works to the forefront, allowing choreographers to focus more on creativity and less on production aspects and costs.

This year's CDF will be presented at the Ailey Citigroup Theater from December 2-5, 2010.

Application Process

• Please submit a DVD or video of the proposed work to be performed. If the proposed work is still in progress, applicant must invite members of the panel to an open rehearsal of the proposed work before August 15, 2010.
• The proposed work, if accepted, must be the work performed in the CDF.
• The proposed work should be no longer than 12 minutes in length.
• Works accepted may not be presented in any other venue in the New York City area between October to December 2010.
• Please fill out all the information on the downloadable application form. All applications should be post-marked no later than August 1, 2010, accompanied with a non-refundable application fee of $35 in the form of a check or money order in US dollars. The check should be made payable to Thang Dao Dance Company. Please write Contemporary Dance Festival on the memo line of the check. You may submit more than one application, and each application will be treated individually.
• After the panelists review the proposed work, an acceptance letter will be mailed or emailed by September 1. Once accepted, the participant will receive a packet containing further details. The packet should be completed and returned no later than September 20, along with a non-refundable performance fee of $300.

The performance fee includes 2 performance tickets, publicity, technical rehearsal, lighting and technical crew, Lighting Designer, Stage Manager,  and 2 DVDs of your performance in high quality resolution with menus and buttons.

Application Guideline

Complete the downloadable application and submit it with the following materials:

• DVD (preferable) or properly cued videotape (in NTSC format) of the work proposed
• Company or choreographer press kit
• Bio of choreographer (and participating dancers, if available)
• $35 non-refundable application fee made out to Thang Dao Dance Company. Please write Contemporary Dance Festival on the memo line.
• The application must be postmarked no later than August 1, 2010.
